How fast is a residential broadband connection?
Residential broadband connections can offer Internet users the ability to download (receive) or upload (transmit) at rapid rates. When using a residential broadband service you can download at speeds of up to 27Mbps but typically it is around 1.5Mbps. There are three types of residential high-speed services offered here such as DSL, Cable Modem, and Satellite Internet services.
DSL Internet is a very popular service within an 18,000 to 15,000 feet to the CO or Central Office. The closer you reside to the CO, if offered, the faster the speed of your connection. In other words, you can order faster DSL services the closer you live to the Central Office. DSL speeds vary between 1.5Mbps to 16Mbps depending on the type of DSL service.
Cable Modem Internet services cover a wider area than a simple DSL connection. If you happen to live in an area serviced by a local cable company then you'll most likely be able to receive cable Internet services. The only limitations to cable Internet is the quality of the lines that connect your service but that can be said of all copper-based connections, or living outside of the service zones. Cable Internet maximum download rates can range from 10Mbps to 27Mbps.
Satellite Internet service covers an even more extensive area than Cable Internet. Internet Satellite is available in all geographic areas. Satellite Internet is viable solution if there isn't any other option for high-speed Internet services. All it takes is an opened account, satellite Internet equipment, and a clear view of the southern sky. Satellite Internet access is granted at up to 1.5Mbps.
